Murders rapists thieves

Today’s show covered lots of territory, beginning with the lion murderer himself, the dentist from Minnesota who apparently has way too much money. We know this because he was willing to blow an estimated $55,000 to kill a beautiful, majestic animal. The world noticed and, like me, it is not amused.

A few weeks ago, I was pitched on a guest. Carl Safina, host of the PBS TV show “Saving the Ocean” has a new book out, Beyond Words: What Animals Think & FeelBeing an animal lover, I said yes, and taped the interview on 7/15. I had planned to air it that week, but news happened. However, upon hearing the news about the murder of Cecil, I kept thinking about what Carl Safina told me in that interview about what animals think & feel, and thought today would be the perfect time to share that interview.

We did mention two videos that show how animals know and remember their human friends. Just click, watch and marvel…

And the story of Christian the Lion, which the hunter dentist should have to watch over and over and over and over again… This is the full version of the documentary, certainly well worth the 45 minutes to watch!

Deborah Newell Tornello joins me every Wednesday morning to have some fun at Floriduh’s expense. Today, we had to begin with the atrocity of the killer dentist who we both believe deserves everything he gets in response to this heinous, unnecessary killing.

As for the Oy FloriDUH files… here’s one:

In Florida, the Sunshine State, it’s nearly impossible to get solar panels installed. Two constitutional amendments are in the works for the 2016 ballot, and the wrong one is ahead!

The House of Representatives will adjourn today, a day early, for their 5 week vacation, er, district work period. Right. By doing that, John Boehner just flipped off Mitch McConnell and the rest of us who’d hoped for a long term highway bill . David Dayen joined me in the second hour of today’s show to talk about what happened.

We also discussed the latest disheartening (and frankly, disgusting) news about the TPP, and how Bernie Sanders adjusted his stump speech and messaging after Netroots Nation, and tonight’s planned meetups across the country in support of Sanders presidential bid.

Tomorrow, Harvey J. Kaye and Howie Klein return, radio or not!
