“Now it’s time to leave the capsule if you dare “This is Major Tom to Ground Control I’m stepping through the door And I’m floating in a most peculiar way And the stars look very different today”

–David Bowie “Space Oddity”

The word awoke to the sad news that David Bowie died last night, after succumbing to an 18-month battle with cancer. We never knew he was sick.

Bowie released his final album on Friday, his 69th birthday, entitled Blackstar.

The first video released makes more sense now, and his producer has confirmed that Bowie intended Blackstar as a “carefully orchestrated farewell to his fans.” Here’s the video for “Lazarus” which just might show how he viewed his impending exit…

Also on the show today, I checked in with Denis Campbell of UK Progressive about politics there and here, the UK’s vote to keep Trump out, Jeremy Corbyn and much more.

In the second hour, I called on Jason Leopold to weigh in on the prison at Guantanamo Bay, 14 years after we began using it for that purpose. We also talked Bowie, as Jason is as big a music fan as am I.

Tomorrow, Joel Silberman will be here, as he spent this morning at the Supreme Court for the oral arguments on the case dealing with teachers unions. We’ll get a full report from him, though the early reports don’t sound good.

And GottaLaff returns… If it’s Tuesday, it’s Laffy on radio or not!
