The old sayings often ring true… Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result.

It really doesn’t matter who said them first, but that they still ring true.  If we want a better world, we need to make some institutional changes!

As I’ve been thinking this, greater minds have been writing about it…

From one of my recent favorite essays from William Greider writing at The Nation, “How the Democratic Party Lost its Soul” to Howie Klein at DownWithTyranny with “The Democratic Party is at a Crossroads…Again” to Dave Johnson at the Campaign for America’s Future asking “Is the Democratic Party Relevant Anymore?” – great minds are thinking alike and noting that we can’t won’t accept business as usual.

Howie and Dave were both on the show this morning with different takes on the same big problem — the Democratic Party as we now know it needs to embrace Democratic principles or be ready to render itself obsolete.

The Ferguson protests that are now happening all over the world are just one sign that people are reject the “same as it ever was” way of doing things. It’s time to embrace December – and look forward, not back, to a new future.

Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Alan Grayson and a handful of others are ready to lead a new Democratic Party. It’s time to say goodbye to the old – and to their crony, moneyed ways, and embrace the new – progressive ways forward.

Are you in?

Tomorrow, the always brilliant Tim Wise will weigh in on what we’re seeing coming out of the miscarriage of justice in Ferguson and the larger lessons we’d better learn from it… and GottaLaff too… radio or not.
