It’s A Big Day For Equality

I had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing Lt. Dan Choi this summer at Netroots Nation in Las Vegas.  Yes, I'm very proud of the picture above.  And I'm thrilled that Dan will join me on the air this morning, on the day that we'll see what our members of the US Senate are made of. Of course we know that John McCain, who's leading the charge on a filibuster of the Defense Authorization Bill because it includes a provision that would repeal the discriminatory Don't Ask Don't Tell policy, is a pandering, homophobic, bigoted, coward.  Sen. Jim Webb is [...]

The Morning After

OK, so I was wrong with a couple of my predictions.  Florida's loathsome Attorney General, Bill McCollum, will not be running for Governor after all. Perhaps it was his decision to take Florida's taxpayers money to spearhead a misguided attempt by a group of AGs to sue  the federal government over the health care law.  But whatever the reason, the Republicans of Florida decided that the sleazy billionaire Rick Scott--who didn't bother to show up at any debates with his opponent, including one just four days ago where he sent his mother in his stead-- would make a better candidate! [...]

What Happened in Vegas will be Heard on the Radio!

Yes, on tonight's show, I'll share some of the highlights of Netroots Nation, which wrapped up yesterday in Las Vegas.  I made it through with little injury, despite my best efforts. I thoroughly embarrassed myself in front of Amy Goodman, Brad Friedman, Jason Leopold, Shannyn Moore, Jeanne Devon, and a whole host of others... but some of them embarrassed themselves too! I was fortunate enough to do the show from the exhibit hall on Thursday (just scroll down to listen to the show with Amy Goodman, Brad Friedman, Shannyn Moore, Jeanne Devon, Markos Moulitsas, the executive directors of [...]

Our Priorities Are Seriously Screwed Up!

Teachers are sadly underpaid and in every state in the nation, education budgets are being cut under the strain of budget woes. Republicans in Congress are complaining about paying unemployed citizens compensation and helping with their COBRA payments, crying that we don't have the money to pay for it. But where were their complaints when George W. Bush lied us into Iraq or waged war on Afghanistan?  I haven't noticed them denying President Obama the funds he's requesting to keep these wars going either. But helping our fellow citizens get through the toughest economic times in generations? That they have [...]

Wednesday… War

War is ugly. I mentioned the other night that I thought it was a barbaric practice and solves no problems... ever. With the wikileaks release of the "Collateral Murder" video, the truly heinous nature of what happens in war is brought right to our laptops, and we should all be sickened by what we see. But keep in mind that, although we rarely get to see examples like this up close and personal, these things happen more often than we'd like to admit. Yesterday, I called on independent journalist Dahr Jamail, who spent nine months in Iraq during un-embedded, reporting [...]

Why I Couldn’t Sleep Last Night

I couldn't fall  asleep last night, and I couldn't figure out why until I started talking on tonight's show. That's when I mentioned that last night, upon learning of the "Collateral Murder" video, I couldn't watch it.  I said that I didn't want to see the killing. But after the show, while uploading the podcast and doing my usual after-show work, I realized that I couldn't not watch it... So, I braced myself and watched the horrors of war. I talked a bit about it tonight, but the guests I had hoped to have on to discuss what went down [...]
