“A minority voter staying home on election day is a vote for a Republican.”

Via one of my favorite Twitter pals ever, Clay Bennett Please read the last part of the following letter twice, and then share it with as many people possible. While you're at it, please vote. And while you're at it squared, please help everyone you can to get to the polls so that they can vote. In other words: Here is today's Los Angeles Times letter to the editor, because our voices matter: What immediately came to mind reading this article was the saying "cut off one's nose to spite one's face." It seems to me that's what the Latinos in [...]

Religion and Politics Monday

Today we did what you're not supposed to do in polite company: talk religion and politics. Then again, I never said we were polite around here. We began with religion, courtesy of Bill Maher, Sam Harris and Ben Affleck  with a little Michael Steele and Nicholas Krisof thrown in for good sense ...   Although I agree with most of what Affleck said, he needs to learn to shut up once in a while and let others speak. Religious scholar Reza Aslan took issue with Maher's prior Islamophobic rants... Although Upworthy cited lots of sources that back up Azlan's [...]

We Have To Do More!

Guest post by Billy Wimsatt who joins me on the show this morning at 10:30ET. Listen live or come back later for the podcast.   I'm freaking out about the Senate. I woke up this morning and thought: WE HAVE TO DO MORE!!! I'm freaking out BOTH because Mitch McConnell controlling the Senate is terrifying AND because I believe we can stop it. Looking at the FiveThirtyEight Senate Forecast, there are at least three races likely to be decided by somewhere between 1 vote and 17,000 votes.     Iowa has been a 1 point race consistently since June (the Republican is ahead). That translates to roughly 11,000 votes we [...]

Women Vote!

Welcome to August 26, 2014 - the 94th anniversary of the certification of the 19th Amendment, which granted women the right to vote in the United States. Although it's dubbed "Women's Equality Day," that's actually a misnomer, as women still have no constitutional right to equality. Although the Equal Rights Amendment was written by Alice Paul in 1923, it has yet to be ratified. But women do have the right to vote. And yes, women do vote! That was the focus of today's "Gliberal Goddesses" gathering. Every other Tuesday morning, GottaLaff of The Political Carnival, Amy Simon of She's History, [...]

My Birthday Wish

That's me... 53 years ago Sunday. My birthday often falls on election day. Ronald Reagan was elected on my 21st birthday. My first time in the voting booth, and I proudly voted for the candidate that lost. Barack Obama made history on my 49th birthday.  And this year, my big day comes two days before election day. People who regularly listen to my show and read this blog know that I always call things the way I see them.  Because of that, I've been attacked with pseudo-insults ever since by so-called liberals.  I've been called "emo-prog" and "firebagger" (whatever [...]

It’s A Mad World

Listen to this episode: {play}http://traffic.libsyn.com/radioornot/20120913_Nicole_Sandler_Show_-_Mad_World.mp3 {/play} Podcast: Play in new window On days like this, I feel like crawling under the blankets and never coming out.  Although I regularly rail against idiocy and lies and question the opposite world  in which the obstructionists of progress reside, I'm at a loss to explain the insanity of religious zealots. So some idiot makes a low-budget, truly awful movie and posts it online. Go after that guy if you must, but to engage in riots and violence aimed at a country that had nothing to do with the production of said sorry piece [...]

How to Fix the Mess We’re In

Listen to this episode: {play}http://traffic.libsyn.com/radioornot/20120807_Nicole_Sandler_Show_.mp3 {/play} Podcast: Play in new window   Today is election day in Washington state and Michigan.  The woman pictured above is Darcy Burner, she's running from Washington's 1st district, and we need her in Congress. Today is the last day to get your ballots in. If you're in Michigan, I can recommend votes for Lance Enderle in the 8th District and Trevor Thomas in the 3rd. If we want to end these senseless wars once and for all and bring all that money home, we need to elect more progressives to Congress. If we want [...]

Vote!

It's finally here. Regardless of how the day ends, one thing is good... no more of those horrendous political ads, for a while anyway. My predictions?  I'll stay optimistic and say that the Dems will retain control of both houses of Congress, though just barely.   The one good thing that will come of today is that many of the Blue Dogs & ConservaDems (Blanche Lincoln, Bobby Bright and others of your ilk, yes, I'm talking to you) will be purged from our government.  The Democratic caucus will be smaller, but more progressive.  And that's a good thing. But it'll take [...]

Getting Out The Vote: An Election Eve Radio Special!

Yes, you're in the right place.  If you entered the site, it's easy to watch and/or listen to the show tonight.  (If you'd rather just listen, click here for the audio stream!) This show came about when my old Air America colleague Richard Greene contacted me and told me about the Energy Independent Congress idea.  It's a pretty simple concept: We ask that you vote for ONLY those candidates, Republican and Democratic, who share the vision of CLEAN ENERGY INDEPENDENCE and have the guts to do what is right for our country . . . to create a new, American [...]
