It's a busy day. I was out yesterday for the Women's Strike! I originally had my old friend Robert Platshorn scheduled to join me then, but moved him to today so I could participate yesterday. So I apologize for the rushed nature of our interview. But I wanted to get him on in time for anyone interested in going to the next Meet the Experts symposium to have time to plan to get to Atlantic City for the event happening March 18-19. Robert Platshorn was busted for smuggling marijuana into South Florida back in 1978 and, in 1980 was sentenced to [...]
I'm back. For now... Since I've been out for the past few Thursdays, we've been missing Harvey J. Kaye. So he joined me today for a quick visit. In hour two, Marijuana Policy Project's Director of Federal Policies, Robert Capecchi, told us about the DEA's decision to keep marijuana as a schedule 1 substance. The Silver Tour's Robert Platshorn joined in to tell us about tomorrow's one day picket of Publix, whose founder's heir donated $800 million to the campaign to defeat Amendment 2, the medical marijuana amendment on the ballot Nov 8. If you're in South Florida, come [...]
Nicole Sandler has lots to process on this Earth Day Friday show. Prince died yesterday, and we're reminded of the power of music. Ari Rabin-Havt of SiriusXM joins in to talk about his new book, "Lies, Incorporated". And Robert "Bobby Tuna" Platshorn updates us on the fight to end cannabis prohibition.
As fall replaces summer, crazy political season kicks into high gear. Nicole Sandler has the news. Plus The Silver Tour's Robert Platshorn with the latest on the efforts to end prohibition and Joanne Bamberger, editor of "Love Her, Love Her Not: The Hillary Paradox" guest.
Today, Nicole looks at things that are FUBAR in our world. Marijuana activist Robert Platshorn served over 3 decades imprisoned for pot. And Amy Ziering tells about her latest film, The Hunting Ground, about the rape epidemic on college campuses.
Because it's Friday, Nicole focuses on some of the better things in life. Medical Marijuana activist Robert Platshorn joins in with details of the upcoming Rally in Tally and the latest in pot news. We celebrate Joan Baez' 74th birthday with a Flashback Friday session with Baez and Dar Williams from 1996 at a Starbucks in Los Angeles!
It's Talk Like a Pirate Day, the start of the People's Climate March & Mobilization, Flashback Friday, and Congress is in recess again. Nicole discusses it all, along with the rest of the news. No Nukes activist Harvey Wasserman, and Medical Marijuana advocate Robert Platshorn guest. And for Flashback Friday, we go back to 2000 for Nicole's interview and performance with Natalie Merchant.
Today, we begin a new weekly segment on the show: The Steve Israel Hour, sponsored by Little Debbie , featuring Howie Klein of the Blue America PAC and Down With Tyranny. In case you didn't know about Blue America, it's a PAC run by Howie, Digby, and Crooks & Liars' John Amato, for the purpose of vetting and identifying the best progressive candidates out there, mostly in Congressional races, and help raise money for them. The sad fact is the today's Democratic Party - the DNC, led by Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and the DCCC, chaired by Steve Israel, tend [...]
We covered a lot of territory on today's show... First up, the situation in Ukraine is horribly sad and tragic. And hearing American politicians on both sides of the aisle proclaiming, as John Kerry did, that "in the 21st century, you don't invade another country on completely trumped-up pretext," is hypocrisy defined. Sickening. The Bobsey Twins, McCain and Graham, couldn't be any more sickening in their sabre-rattling in the name of criticizing Obama - going against the previous tenets of "foreign policy ends at the water's edge." They don't stand for anything other than leading that charge that whatever Obama [...]
For almost two hours today, NJ Bully Governor Chris Christie denied he had any involvement in the vindictive closure of multiple toll lanes leading on to the George Washington Bridge that resulted in massive traffic backups for four days in September 2013. He did, however, throw a number of his senior staffers under the bus (or off the bridge, as it were), and he played the victim. He can go cry crocodile tears with Frank Luntz. Obviously, the Christie blame game (anyone but him) and his endless presser dominated today's show, which included Julianna Forlano's top five four excuses why [...]
