8-4-15 Nicole Sandler Show – Grabby Old Pervs

A busy Tuesday show on tap with cartoonist Tom Tomorrow whose record-shattering Kickstarter campaign ends today; Susan Smith, president of the Democratic Progressive Caucus of FL responding to Eleanor Clift's offensive article on what Florida voters want; and GottaLaff joins me to talk last night's clown car cattle call and everything else. And we attempt to come up with a better description for the GOP acronym.

Take the Threats Seriously

Americans have really short memories. It was less than a year ago that the Republicans shut down the US government for 16 very long days. And now Mitch McConnell is threatening to do it again. I suggest we take those threats very seriously. To refresh our country's collective memory loss: First, Federal employees were furloughed for a combined total of 6.6 million days, more than in any previous government shutdown. At its peak, about 850,000 individuals per day were furloughed. That number fell once most Department of Defense civilian employees were able to return to work as the Pentagon implemented the [...]

Dueling Platforms

Last week we shuddered as we read the ideals the Republican Party stands for as they released the official 2012 Republican Party Platform.  Talk about a giant leap backwards...  Courtesy of ThinkProgress, here are some of the standout parts: NO ABORTION IN CASES OF RAPE OR INCEST. The proposal for a “human life amendment”passed without a hitch — and without any exceptions for rape or incest. The committee didn’t stop there; they also adopted language that would ban drugs that end pregnancy after conception, which could potentially include Plan B, the “morning after pill.” SALUTE TO MANDATORY ULTRASOUNDS. The GOP officially praises states’ “informed [...]

Today’s GOP

The battle raging in the US today isn't so much the Democratic Party vs. the Republican Party as it is Progressive vs. Regressive. Although the Obama campaign's slogan really hadn't appealed to me before, Forward is the perfect battle cry while we're forced to fight against the GOP's very Backward platform. Today's GOP stands for a giant leap back...  From outlawing abortion under any circumstances, to making it more difficult for people to vote, to undoing our social safety net and other protections for those who need help the most, the best slogan for today's GOP would be Backwards.

The Mourning After

Yes, I'm in mourning today.  I've never been particularly fond of Florida (except for the weather from Dec-March), but the next few years will be particularly awful here. Although the Governor's race hasn't officially been called, as of this writing -at 9:40am Wednesday morning and 99% of the precincts reporting, Rick Scott is in the lead with 2,553,434 votes (49%) to Alex Sink's 2,500,510 votes (48%).  Ms. Sink has a press conference scheduled for 10:30 this morning.  Unfortunately, I think it'll be her concession speech. Want to know a bit more about our presumptive governor?  Here's what the Broward New [...]
