It’s 10-11-12: Do You Know Who Your VP Will Be?

It's deja vu all over again as a completely unqualified candidate could be one heartbeat away from the presidency.  Say what you will about Paul Lyin' Ryan, he's in good shape. The picture above and the others in Time's pictorial published today were taken in December of last year when the congressman from Wisconsin was named one of the magazine's runners up for Person of the Year and show the vp-wannabe looking truly less-than-presidential.  Thanks Time for sharing these pics on the day of the one and only debate between Ryan and VP Joe Biden. Those aren't the only completely wrong photos [...]

Down Memory Lane and Into the Future

Listen to this episode: {play}http://traffic.libsyn.com/radioornot/20120830_Nicole_Sandler_Show_-_Mark_Thompson_and_politics_too.mp3 {/play} Podcast: Play in new window   This picture was taken sometime around 1992, in the KLOS/Los Angeles studio.  Of course, that's James Taylor. And me. They guys to my left and my right are the famous (infamous) Mark and Brian with whom I spent four very busy, successful years as their producer. They signed off from their last broadcast two weeks ago tomorrow after 25 years together at KLOS.  While my four years as part of the show sounds like a drop in their massive bucket, it was a big part of my professional [...]

MayDay, MayDay!

I smell revolution in the air.  It comes with the American Spring and the rebirth of the newly awakened Occupy movement. How apropos that people will protest around the world on May Day!  Not only is it International Workers Day, but mayday is the internationally recognized signal of distress. We'll just scratch the surface of the May 1st General Strike (#M1GS) actions happening around the US today with a few activists.  Robert, aka @rousseau_ist of the Occupied News Network will get us started from McPherson Square in Washington DC.  We'll head up to NYC to talk with Linda Busch Somach [...]

Atlas Drugged: Ayn Rand Be Damned!

Today is tax day, but there are many among us who don't want to pay their fair share of taxes.  If Paul Ryan - who gives a copy of Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged to all of his staffers and requires they read it - had his way, the wealthiest among us would pay even less in taxes than they already do, while the rest of us would get hit with a bigger bill each year at this time. But at what cost?  We're already headed on the road to austerity.  The rich keep getting richer while the rest [...]

Talking About What’s Really Important

That's what I try to do every morning on my show.  Unfortunately, the news has been cancelled in favor of ratings, and the media is obsessed with appealing to the basest of instincts - peoples' preoccupation with the sex lives of others. Yes, we've been talking about Anthony Weiner too, as his fall from grace and his stupid propensity for thinking with his little head instead of his big one is THE most talked-about piece of "news" today. Rachel Maddow covered the hypocrisy of the right's demanding his head (so to speak), by pointing out their obvious flawed belief: IOKIYAR [...]

2012 – Here We Come!

We're less than 18 months away from election day 2012, and one thing is certain... the Republicans don't have a candidate. Newt imploded immediately after announcing.  We'll just have to hope he stays in the race for comic relief. The teabaggers seem to like Herman Cain.  Yes, the same people who criticized candidate and even President Obama for his "lack of experience" wants to run the former head of a pizza company?  Put to the very basic test of appearing on Fox News Sunday yesterday, Cain pulled a Palin when softballer Chris Wallace asked him his thoughts on the Palestinians' [...]

The Post-Friday Budgetary Blues

As the new week begins, I'm still reeling from the events that transpired on Friday. As the country was waiting anxiously to see how the budget standoff would end Friday night, I was sitting in an attorney's office, signing away my rights to my house.  The house that my father bought after my mother died, where he lived his final dozen or so years in misery as a quadriplegic, is no longer my burdon. I bought my sister out of her share of the house after my father died ... at the height of the market.  The house that my [...]
