How I Spent My Summer Vacation

OK, it wasn't a vacation, but I spent the last few days with members of the American Federation of Teachers. at their bi-annual convention here in Los Angeles. I had no idea the American Federation of Teachers represented so many of the people whose work is in helping others until I arrived on Friday. But I sat in the opening session, with the powerful Rev. Dr. William Barber (more about him in a moment) and the electric president of the AFT Randi Weingarten, and saw a huge contingent of nurses waving their flags. I learned that the AFT, whose numbers [...]

Good Morning from the West Coast

I awoke this morning in beautiful downtown Los Angeles. I'm here to cover the American Federation of Teachers convention before heading to Detroit for Netroots Nation. I'll find out all the details for the AFT convention later this morning, and will update this post with a working schedule. That said, there will be no live show this morning. However, since it's Friday, I thought we'd do a special double-header Flashback Friday edition. Each Friday, I dig into my radio archives and pull out an interview from my music radio days. Today, we go back to 1999 and 2000 to speak [...]

The American Tealiban

The woman on the left is Holly "Hobby Lobby" Fisher, a misguided, under-educated dolt who believes that she's holding her "First and Second Amendment rights" in her hands in the picture above. The woman on the right is Sherafiyah Lewthwaite, an international terrorist known as the White Widow who is part of the Al-Shabaab Islamic militant group, a religious zealot who takes her marching orders from her misreading and misunderstanding of the Quran. Unfortunately, Ms. Fisher doesn't see the similarity in the two pictures. In fact, she went on "Fox & Friends" to try to explain her stupidity. Although the segment begins [...]

Taking the “DUH” out of FloriDUH

Greetings from the land of hanging chads and stand your ground insanity. It's also a state where registered Democrats outnumber Republicans 4,587,502 to 4,128,098, yet the GOP controls both chambers of the legislature and all cabinet positions. Maybe it's the heat combined with the humidity that make people vote against their own best interests time after time. Regardless of the reasons, Florida has a chance to rid ourselves of some of the DUH that's infected our land. But to do that, Floridians have to vote in the August 26 primary, and vote for the only progressive Democrat in the race. If [...]

Secrets and Lies

Last night, NBC aired Brian Williams' interview with Edward Snowden, recorded last week in Moscow. I think he made a really convincing case for himself, answering a lot of the questions that have been hovering since his first revelations were published last year. Unfortunately, today's show was jam packed, so we didn't have much time to delve into it. We'll do that tomorrow on another special Friday edition of the show. In the meantime, if you haven't seen it yet, take the time to watch, listen and learn. We were busy this morning talking about Sam Seder and a new [...]

San Jose Bound

The annual gathering of the online pinko/commie community is just about upon us - and I need it now more than ever.  Yes, I'm one disillusioned liberal.  Perhaps a few days of socializing and socialism is just what the Obamacare doctor ordered. This morning, just to get pumped up for the conference, I spoke with Netroots Nation Director of Communications and Media, Mary Rickles.  If you're following along from at home, you can check out this guide to the live streaming...  (or just come back, as I'll have the live streams embedded here too). In the second hour, I spoke [...]

The More Things Change, The More They Stay the Same

So, we hoped for change... and got more of the same.  Though they tell us the difference is that it was illegal under Bush, but it's all legal under Obama. Somehow that doesn't comfort me when I realize that the only amendment left standing in the Bill of Rights is the Second, which has been widely misinterpreted to ignore the words "well regulated" and "militia". On today's show, I finished the week discussing all of the revelations, attacks, back-asswards reasoning from Obama supporters and fake indignation from his attackers on the right, lies and excuses and more with Absurdity Today's [...]

Right Wingers Infiltrate Netroots Nation and Make Shit Up

Listen to this episode: {play}http://traffic.libsyn.com/radioornot/20120612_Nicole_Sandler_Show_-_Darcy.mp3 {/play} Play in new window   Darcy Burner (candidate for Congress from WA-01) gave me my first goose bump moment at Netroots Nation last week.  It was during the Keynote plenary "The War on (and for) Women".   About 10 minutes into her address, after speaking about the cultural shift that now has her Republican dad speaking openly about her uncle Charlie who  "probably is gay", Darcy explained that the stories in people heads have changed. It's due to a change in the way we look at things, and become more accepting of ideas that we didn't, [...]
