Broken News

With one week till election day 2014, Nicole Sandler takes a look at what's at stake. Sadly, the prospect of reasonable gun laws in the first national election following the Newtown massacre and just days after yet another school shooting are virtually absent from the nation's ballots, as The Nation's George Zornick tells us. Plus, a nuclear accident in Illinois that the mainstream corporate media is silent about!

We Have To Do More!

Guest post by Billy Wimsatt who joins me on the show this morning at 10:30ET. Listen live or come back later for the podcast.   I'm freaking out about the Senate. I woke up this morning and thought: WE HAVE TO DO MORE!!! I'm freaking out BOTH because Mitch McConnell controlling the Senate is terrifying AND because I believe we can stop it. Looking at the FiveThirtyEight Senate Forecast, there are at least three races likely to be decided by somewhere between 1 vote and 17,000 votes.     Iowa has been a 1 point race consistently since June (the Republican is ahead). That translates to roughly 11,000 votes we [...]

The Mourning After

Yes, I'm in mourning today.  I've never been particularly fond of Florida (except for the weather from Dec-March), but the next few years will be particularly awful here. Although the Governor's race hasn't officially been called, as of this writing -at 9:40am Wednesday morning and 99% of the precincts reporting, Rick Scott is in the lead with 2,553,434 votes (49%) to Alex Sink's 2,500,510 votes (48%).  Ms. Sink has a press conference scheduled for 10:30 this morning.  Unfortunately, I think it'll be her concession speech. Want to know a bit more about our presumptive governor?  Here's what the Broward New [...]
