As usual, Nicole Sandler begins her show with a roundup of the news of the day. Her guest for today's interview is Richard "RJ" Eskow, writer, rabble-rouser and host of The Zero Hour radio program. He wrote an important piece about the fight over means testing for the American Prospect -"What the Fight Over Means Testing Is Really About"- that we'll explore today.
After an update on the day's news, we turn our attention to healthcare. The Florida Healthcare Summit is coming to South Florida this weekend, and today she speaks with one of the keynote speakers, Michael Lighty, Director of Public Policy for National Nurses United, about the movement toward Medicare for All.
Today, I'm thrilled to welcome my friend, media trainer and strategist, Joel Silberman to talk about politics, the future of healthcare, cancer and more. The website I gave out to use to call some of the more "moderate" Republicans most likely to vote against the GOP Wealthcare bill is TrumpcareToolkit.org. Please use it every day!
I must admit that I was all over the place today... somewhat wired and obviously getting a little nervous as Donald Trump will be inaugurated as our 45th president in three days. Someone please wake me, this must be a nightmare. GottaLaff joined in, as she does on Tuesdays, and she was almost as discombobulated as I was... But there was some good news that came down just after the show ended: President Obama commuted Chelsea Manning's sentence! And one of his victims is suing Donald Trump, so there's that...
Today is my final show before taking some time off for surgery and recuperation. I honestly can't remember the last time I took an extended period of time off. I moved my show online the night Air America went off the air and, aside from a sick day or a travel day here and there, I've been on the air. This time I'm putting my health first. So after I chat with Wendell Potter today, I'm taking some time off. I have pre-op appointments tomorrow and Friday, and surgery is Tuesday, so I'm really not slacking off. And since [...]
I usually love Fridays. They mean the weekend is here. But when you're dealing with medical uncertainty, it's another 48 hours in a dead zone. Nothing will happen until Monday. Today, we learned that the company who takes my money every month and in return is supposed to pay my medical bills DENIED my doctor's order for a PET-CT scan to find out what this mass is on my left lung. DENIED. So, I'm going in first thing Monday morning for a regular old CAT scan that, according to my doctor, will NOT give him the info he needs to [...]
I was going to be here yesterday. I really was. But the visit with the pulmonologist shook me out of my optimistic outlook and scared the shit out of me. The mass on my lung, unearthed by the x-ray of my heart on Thursday night is, according to the doctor, "large." He said we need to find out what it it. No shit! The next step is a PET-CT scan. Now we wait for United Healthcare to approve it. And we wait. As of today, when David called the office, the government-sanctioned extortionists have all the information. We should [...]
On Wednesday mornings, Nicole hangs with her fellow FloriDUHian Deborah Newell to poke some fun at the state that is the nation's dick. In addition to today Floriduh files and a recap of last night's primary results, we'll go back in time 5 years to the night Nicole was arrested for committing democracy, underscoring our need to fight on for what's important. And a detour to talk with the 10 year old girl who sang with Bruce Springsteen Monday night.
Denis Campbell tells what happened when he had a medical emergency in the UK, and gives a first person account of the good, the bad and the ugly of the NHS.
