2011 Year in Review – March Through May and Here’s Where Your Jobs Are Going

This morning on the show, I had an eye-opening conversation with civil rights attorney James Otto about a lawsuit he filed in California against "healthcare company" Molina Healthcare. (Ed note: I put healthcare company in quotes because I believe this company and others do nothing to care for the help of its clients.) I urge you to listen to the interview, as it's pretty in-depth and mind blowing.  But basically, Otto is representing a group of former employees who were fired and replaced by non-citizens allowed to work here under H-1B visas, after being forced to train those workers to [...]

On Indefinite Detention and Fighting for What’s Right

I've been vilified on the internet for daring to attempt to reason with people who won't criticize our president, even in light of horrible abuses of our constitutional rights as citizens. I've learned my lesson: tweeting while sick and attempting to reason with the unreasonable are two things I will no longer do. When my thoughts are muddled, I'll stay off the twitter machine.  And I'll no longer engage those who don't debate in good faith. That said, I have many reasons to be worried about the provisions in the Defense Authorization Act the allow for the indefinite detention of [...]

A Tale of Two Cities Occupied (or Not)

Occupy LA evicted by LAPD - 11/30/11 Photo: newsone.com In Los Angeles, the tensions began rising at around 8:30 PM, as word spread throughout the encampment that a raid was imminent. Luckily, some intrepid tweeters and bloggers were on the job... Brad Friedman was tweeting and updating BradBlog.com throughout the night - so much so that he was still awake on the west coast when I awoke on the east coast. Brad's updates on his blog ended at 3:30 am PDT (6:30 EDT!) with this entry: 3:31am PT: Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and LAPD Chief Charlie Beck give a verybrief statement to media. [...]

Thursday Nov 10 – Today’s Show

It was a busy day!  The first hour included a visit from investigative journalist Greg Palast, giving us the juicy details behind his new book Vultures' Picnic: In Pursuit of Petroleum Pigs, Power Pirates, and High-Finance Carnivores. I finally got the time to start reading it just a couple of days ago, and it reads like a spy novel... but it's all true. I'll let you know when I'm done, but  is definitely worth the read, whether the printed version or the Kindle edition with audio & video.  By the way, if you read the printed version and want to see [...]

2012 – Here We Come!

We're less than 18 months away from election day 2012, and one thing is certain... the Republicans don't have a candidate. Newt imploded immediately after announcing.  We'll just have to hope he stays in the race for comic relief. The teabaggers seem to like Herman Cain.  Yes, the same people who criticized candidate and even President Obama for his "lack of experience" wants to run the former head of a pizza company?  Put to the very basic test of appearing on Fox News Sunday yesterday, Cain pulled a Palin when softballer Chris Wallace asked him his thoughts on the Palestinians' [...]

Monday Morning Musings

We're at the beginning of a new week... The space shuttle just launched with Gaby Giffords' husband aboard, and the Sunday talk shows had an 8:1 ratio of Republicans to Democrats yesterday. Of course, we'll talk with Nicole Belle about those Sunday shows in hour two... more on that in a bit. Thursday was May 12, and the On May 12 coalition had their big day of action, but you'd never know it if you looked for coverage of the huge numbers of people who marched on Wall Street.  Thank goodness for Allison Kilkenny -journalist and co-host of Citizen Radio, [...]
