Today, Nicole recaps the weird murders outlined in HBO's The Jinx, leading up to Robert Dursts' arrest yesterday, and our 3 degrees of separation! Plus, two awful anniversaries: we talk Fukushima 4 with Harvey Wasserman, and 12 Years since Iraq
Today marks the fourth anniversary of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami that crippled the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant. Nicole talks about it with the Green News Report's Desi Doyen. And Crooks & Liars' Susie Madrak makes her last weekly appearance on the show..
Three years ago today, an 8.9 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Japan, and triggered a massive tsunami that claimed among its victims the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, and thus began a nuclear disaster whose scope is still not fully known, but will continue for generations to come. The news out of Japan these days is sparse, due to a newly-passed state secrets law that prohibits everyone from discussing the disaster (or any other bad news), and even prohibits journalists from asking questions about it, both punishable by long prison terms. Over here and in other parts of [...]
We're killing the planet. Actually, more accurately, we're making this planet uninhabitable. The picture above is one of a few I saw posted around the interwebs this morning of the "water" that's coming out of faucets in Charleston, WV today - after authorities gave the all-clear and said the stuff was safe to drink, bathe in, and give your kids. Lovely, huh? And even though information from Japan about what's going on at and around Fukushima is now non-existent due to a new state secrets law that prohibits the dissemination of information (and even prohibits journalists from asking the questions!), [...]
"The problems we set out to address will not be solved overnight but make no mistake, the people of this city have chosen a progressive path," -- NYC Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio 11/5/14 Following the lead of the people of Los Angeles who elected a progressive Mayor in Eric Garcetti just six months ago, the people of New York handed Bill de Blasio a landslide. Knocking a giant hole in the media's contention that Democrats won't vote in a midterm or off-off year election, in race after race, not just the Democrats - but the PROGRESSIVE Democrats scored victories. From [...]
It was my final day filling in for Gloria Neal on AM 760 in Denver, Colorado. While I sat in the studio of their sister stations in South Florida, I heard the newscaster talk about wet snow falling in Denver and surrounding areas. Snow! On October 4! I guess I'm glad I live in South Florida, sort of. Anyway, it was a busy show... In the first hour, I was joined by Harvey Wasserman of NukeFree.org. As you can probably tell by now, I'm on a quest to make sure as many people as possible know about the disastrous situation [...]
The headline above could refer to any of the stories we covered today. We started the show with my interview with Dr. Helen Caldicott, one of the world's loudest, most passionate voices about the dangers of nukes - both weapons and power! For decades, Dr. Caldicott has been educating the world, focusing on the grave danger posed to public health by radiation, by the contribution of nuclear power to global warming, and by the real capacity of nuclear weapons, technology, and waste, to render parts or all of the earth uninhabitable forever. At NuclearFreePlanet.org, I read Dr. Caldicott's articles about [...]
You'd never know that the crisis at the Fukushima Daichi nuclear power plant is at a critical point if you only paid attention to the mainstream corporate media. They're not reporting the massive story about how TEPCO (Tokyo Electric Power Company) will, sometime in the next 60 days, begin the process of trying to remove more than 1300 spent fuel rods from a badly damaged pool perched 100 feet in the air. If you're not up on nuclear power plants, you might not know why this is such a big story. Gaius Publius, who joined me on the show this [...]
