Oil Spills, Birth Control and Religious Hypocrisy

The Supreme Court today heard a challenge to the Affordable Care Act's mandated coverage of contraceptives. Two cases of corporations owned by religious zealots trying to impose their religious beliefs on their employees while claiming their religious rights are being infringed upon (welcome to opposite world) were rolled into this one hearing before the highest court in the land. It looks like the audio from today's arguments won't be posted until Friday. When it is posted, it will be found here.) Meanwhile, the Obama administration just lifted the ban that kept BP from pursuing new leases in the Gulf of [...]

Spring Break

It is spring break in South Florida this weekend, but it's actually more like Spring Broken! First, the obvious! Technical problems prove that my system is broken. I tried to fix my phone problems over the weekend and seem to have made matters worse (damned Mac update!). I'll try to fix those problems before hitting the air tomorrow morning. The other broken things just might be above my pay grade! Today marks the 25th anniversary of the Exxon Valdez disaster - and 25 years later, we're all still paying the price. Shannyn Moore was there and wrote about it. For [...]

Up Oil’s Creek Without a Paddle

I generally write this blog after my show, and use it to reiterate a few points and give the info on the content and guests.  I'll do all of that... But immediately after the show ended, it was time to tune in to President Obama's speech from the Oval Office regarding the biggest man-made environmental disaster in history. Today, government panel of scientists set up to examine the flow from BP's blown out well said that between 1.47 million and 2.52 million gallons of oil is still gushing from the underwater geyser in the Gulf of Mexico every [...]

It’s Friday, ya bastids…

That's what Randi Rhodes says each Friday as she launches into "Bounce Your Boobies" to start her show. Well, Randi's off today, and I'm guest hosting. I hope you don't mind, but I shall not be singing the customary Friday song.  I simply could not do it justice, so we'll all just have to go through boobie withdrawal until next Friday. I'm sure you'll understand. We do have a busy show for you today... Lots to talk about, including my theory that most of the Republican party and their followers tend to live  in some sort of "opposite world" or [...]

I’ve got the SCOTUS nomination blues

Oh Obama, we had such high hopes for you! On April 20, Christina Bellantoni of Talking Points Memo wrote: In comments that are at odds with the conventional wisdom about what Obama needs to do to make sure the Senate confirms his nominee to replace John Paul Stevens, a White House official involved in the confirmation process tells TPMDC that the President isn't taking a cautious approach to selecting a nominee. Despite having one less Democrat in the Senate than when Sonia Sotomayor was confirmed last year, the administration isn't limiting itself to reviewing only centrist candidates for the court [...]
