Today has been a strange day - even stranger than usual in the age of D'ump. Calls from the House Democratic Caucus to open an impeachment inquiry grow louder, while Nancy Pelosi resists. But after she said Trump was engaged in a cover-up, Trump canceled their meeting and said he won't work with them until the investigations stop. We'll talk about this and the larger question of what Democrats need to do to win big in 2020 with Thomas Neuburger (the guest formerly known as Gaius Publius!)
It's been another crazy week in America! AG Bill Barr refused to participate in today's House Judiciary Hearing on the Mueller Report. Nicole has all the information along with the rest of the day's news. It's Thursday, so we visit with Howie Klein of Down with Tyranny and the Blue America PAC. Today, are the Democrats having trouble finding candidates to run and take back the senate? and more...
We're back today after a short break for the 4th of July. Since it's Thursday, Howie Klein of Down with Tyranny and the Blue America PAC joins in for our weekly discussion on politics, primaries and priorities. Today, Howie gives in to my line of thinking...
It's a busy Friday on the show as Nicole speaks with Simon Maloy of Media Matters about Trump's pardon of right wing provocateur Dinesh D'Sousa. Nicole also welcomes long-time progressive strategist Mike Lux, whose new book "How to Democrat in the Age of Trump" is released today.
The Michael Wolff book, Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House, is still making waves and lots of news today. Trump's attorneys have threatened to sue Steve Bannon for quotes attributed to him in it, and both the author and publisher to keep them from releasing the book. Their response was to move the official release date from next Tuesday Jan.9 to tomorrow. (If it's a book you plan to buy from Amazon, please use this link so we get a small commission!) I recently discovered Current Affairs magazine when a friend posted an article written by its editor in chief, [...]
As usual, we started the show with a review of the day's news. During today's Talk Media News update, Luke Vargas told us about a new report on extreme poverty and human rights from the UN. You can read that report here. Today we welcomed author and professor Harvey J. Kaye back to the show to talk about the Democrats past failures and what they can do to turn things around.
Nicole speaks with the Roosevelt Institute's Mike Konczal about his Vox.com article, "Who’s truly rebuilding the Democratic Party? The activists." Then Down With Tyranny and the Blue America PAC's Howie Klein joins in. We talked about Ted Lieu's endorsement of Randy Bryce, veterans who are running for office, and more progressive politics.
Today we delved into the madness surrounding North Korea and its nuclear weapons program, and D'ump's reaction to it. I read a piece from The Nation that informed me that the president can unilaterally launch a nuclear bomb without approval of Congress or anyone else. Please read it and share widely! David Atkins, contributor to Washington Monthly, joined me to discuss one of his columns: "Bernie, Kamala, and the Left's War of Mutually Assured Destruction" which highlights the latest divide among the political left and which must be fixed if we're to get ourselves out of this Trump dump.
Today I'm joined by Gaius Publius who wrote at Down with Tyranny about our collapsing social contract. Kelly Carlin was supposed to be on today's show, but had to postpone due to a death in her family. We'll reschedule as soon as possible. In the meantime, check out the webinar she'll be hosting beginning next Wednesday!
