Grayson & Tudor – Florida Progressives!

I'm a bit misty eyed today, as I sent my daughter off to her first day of middle school this morning.  I remember her first day of kindergarten as if it was yesterday. Where does the time go? One of her subjects is World History.  I look forward to reading the text book to see how it's presented.  In this political climate, I worry about how our kids are taught, and a whole lot more... This blog will be short today, as I waited at home until she arrived home from school to see how it went (Fine Mom).  And [...]

What Happened in Vegas will be Heard on the Radio!

Yes, on tonight's show, I'll share some of the highlights of Netroots Nation, which wrapped up yesterday in Las Vegas.  I made it through with little injury, despite my best efforts. I thoroughly embarrassed myself in front of Amy Goodman, Brad Friedman, Jason Leopold, Shannyn Moore, Jeanne Devon, and a whole host of others... but some of them embarrassed themselves too! I was fortunate enough to do the show from the exhibit hall on Thursday (just scroll down to listen to the show with Amy Goodman, Brad Friedman, Shannyn Moore, Jeanne Devon, Markos Moulitsas, the executive directors of [...]

It’s Monday, and Day 70 of the Gulf/BP Disaster

With no end in sight. Ugh. Aside from the ongoing tragedy in the Gulf of Mexico, today was a busy news day. Senator Robert Byrd died this morning. If nothing else, he should be remembered for speaking out against the war in Iraq. Check the bottom of this post for the video of that wise and prescient speech. The Supreme Court ruled against states rights on gun control. I guess we're returning to the wild west. Today is also the last day of this term of the Supreme Court, and the last day Justice John Paul Stevens sits on the [...]

Maybe the Mayans Were Correct

I finally did a little searching today to find out exactly what the Mayans predicted would happen on Dec. 21, 2012. It turns out that they did not predict the end of the world. According to USA Today, "For the ancient Maya, it was a huge celebration to make it to the end of a whole cycle," says Sandra Noble, executive director of the Foundation for the Advancement of Mesoamerican Studies in Crystal River, Fla. To render Dec. 21, 2012, as a doomsday or moment of cosmic shifting, she says, is "a complete fabrication and a chance for a lot [...]

Brigham Young’s Great Great Gay Progressive Granddaughter for Congress!

***Update*** Wow.  At least you know it's live radio.  Tonight's show didn't go at all as planned. As you likely know, I stream my show live on both an audio stream (hosted by our friends at TalkRadioOne.com) and video (via Ustream). Ustream also has a chat program that I use during the show. Unfortunately, tonight my chat room was invaded by a bunch of obviously pre-pubescent teens who thought it funny to disrupt a live radio show. To make matters worse, time zone issues got the best of me tonight too, as Claudia Wright had the wrong time!  (Did Mercury [...]

Better Late Than Never (Wednesday’s show)

I'm a bad host... a very bad host. I was just too tired last night to write this blog entry, letting you know who was on the show and giving you links to find out more about who they are and what we talked about. So now, I get to pull double duty again! So, we'll make this quick (as I still have to post tonight's show and blog!) We started the show last night as we do most Wednesdays, with Christy Harvey of the Center for American Progress, and a discussion of some of the stories she shares with [...]

The Morning After Health Care Passed

The sweeping health care reform bill already passed by the Senate passed the House last night. Funny, though, I haven't noticed a slide into the Fascist-Socialist-Communist state the right has been warning us about. Tomorrow morning, President Obama will sign this bill into law, and then the Senate will (hopefully) quickly pass the fixes in the reconciliation bill. And then, with our urging, they'll get to work on making it better. (Public Option/Medicare for All, anyone?) On tonight's show, we talked about the bill that passed last night, and what it means to us in the immediate future, as well [...]

Health Care and Mormons and Hate Speak, Oh My!

**Podcast audio fixed.  Somehow, Tuesday's show was originally re-posted. Click on the player to hear the correct audio.  Sorry for the inconvenience!  NS** Today, I watched President Obama's final speech on Health Care Reform. And he said nothing. Nothing new, anyway. It was the same old shit. Same old pandering to the right. Same old sidestepping the public option -- the one fix that could get much of his former base back on board, but that, for reasons still completely obscured, he ignores. The same old Obama, trying to please everyone and, by doing that, pleasing no one... except the [...]

Baseball, Politics, and Humor!

It's a busy show tonight, and I want to make sure you have links to all the guests and most of the topics! We'll kick things off at 11pm ET/8pm PT with John Amato of Crook & Liars. I've been a fan of that site for a long time, and this is John's first appearance on my show, so I'm quite excited about it. But I'm at a bit of a disadvantage, as the story he wants to talk about tonight deals with baseball player Mark McGwire, his steroid use, and the fact that former George W. Bush spokesliar Ari [...]
