Al Franken announced his resignation from the US Senate today. After I shared the news, I checked in with Howie Klein of Down with Tyranny and the Blue America PAC, who's not happy about it either.
After an update on the latest news, I speak with journalist and author Sarah Posner about yesterday's hearing at the Supreme Court, Masterpiece Cakeshop vs Colorado Civil Rights Commission, and the Alliance Defending Freedom- the Christian legal group representing the baker. Read Sarah's piece about the ADF, "The Christian Legal Army Behind ‘Masterpiece Cakeshop'" and her article about yesterday's day at the Supreme Court, "Justice Kennedy Appears Ready to Undo His Own Legacy on LGBTQ Rights".
After an update on the news and the GOP tax scam passing the House and moving in the Senate, we welcomed Derrick Crowe, progressive Democratic candidate for Congress from Texas' 21st district. Check out Derrick's website at electcrowe.com.
Al Franken today was accused of sexual harassment by an LA radio personality. On today's show, I weighed in on the fact that it's not a partisan issue, though some on the right are trying to make it one. An updated version would certainly include some reference to today's predicament. Senator Al Franken calls the fight for Net Neutrality "the free speech issue of our time" . Presidential candidate Barack Obama promised that he'd always support and would only appoint FCC commissioners who'd uphold his belief in the need for a free and open internet. So, WTF is going on with Chairman Tom [...]
How appropriate is it that Larry Summers' departure is announced on the first day of fall? What other beautiful changes can we hope for as the Obama administration attempts to get voters excited before November 2? How about making a list? Get Rahm the hell out of there too! The PCCC started a campaign to get Chicago voters to pledge never to vote for him... but I say "shhh." Let him think they'll vote for him, and then don't! In the wake of yesterday's blockade in the Senate of opening debate on DADT (by way of the Defense Appropriations bill), [...]
