The “Allen West is toast” victory tour continues today with the guy who unseated him!  Patrick Murphy joined the show this morning to talk about beating the craziest member of the US House of Representatives.  In case you were wondering, no, West never called him to conceded.  He did it on Fox Faux News and Facebook.  Now that’s classLESS, but then again, I’d expect nothing more from a war criminal piece of shit like Allen West.

Although Murphy is not quite the progressive I’d like to see in that seat, he’s better on his worst day than West would ever be on his best.  That said, I told Patrick on the show this morning that I’m going to keep close watch on him.. and urged him to talk with some of my favorite Congressmen like Alan Grayson, Raul Grijalva and Keith Ellison.  To be continued…

By the way, this is the week that all of the soon-to-be-former Congressmen get moved out of their soon-to-be-former offices.  I called West’s office just to rub it in a little…

November is National Adoption Month, and I do a segment on the show around this time every year.  Five years ago, I was hosting mornings at then-progressive talk WINZ in Miami when I got an email from Robert Lamarche asking me if I’d consider doing a segment on adoption.  I invited him on, and we’ve made it a date every year since.

Robert’s story is a great one.   When we first met, he and his partner were foster parents to a teenager. As gay men, they were legally unable to adopt.  Over the past five years, Rob was involved in the battle for his right to adopt – and now has not only adopted his son Kasey, but also his daughter Charla!  Plus he went to law school and got his law degree. Next step: marriage equality!

Rob is now director of social services at Advocates for Children and Families .  If you have any questions about any aspect of adoption, reach out to Rob at info@adoptionflorida.org or 800-348-0467.  He’ll either help you personally or point you in the right direction.

And finally, many of us avoided going anywhere near a store on Black Friday.  But at hundreds of Walmart stores around the country, workers went on strike.  Josh Eidelson has been covering the action for The Nation.  He joined me Wednesday afternoon on The Randi Rhodes Show,   and came back on my show this morning to recap the courageous action taken by the Walmart strikers.  Read his liveblog from Friday and recap stories for The Nation, and keep up with all of his stuff for The Nation here.

And, in place of today’s news from the Talk Radio News Service, we spoke with Pastor Heidi McGinness, who serves as Director of Outreach for Christian Solidarity International-USA.  Heidi works directly with the people of South Sudan, helping to liberate them from slavery and get them on their feet.  She’s working with Ellen Ratner’s Goats for the Old Goat program.
