That's my daughter carrying that awesome sign that reads "History says change happens. Make some!" She was probably 12 years old at the Occupy Ft. Lauderdale march that I dragged her to with me at the height of the Occupy movement. Just look how far we've come since then. Today, we talked about making history as we're making history. Boca Britany Somers joined us in the new studios today as our first in-studio guest! She's welcome any time, but since there was major news for the transgender community and the rest of the world this week, I invited Brit in to [...]
The unthinkable happened again this weekend. A crazy person who should never have been allowed anywhere near a gun was allowed to "legally" purchase a weapon of war and a handgun, went to a gay club in Orlando and opened fire, killing at least 50 people and injuring at least 53 others. Our regular Monday morning guest Joel Silberman was back today with a unique perspective on this madness as a gay man who's working with Bob Poe, a candidate running for Congress from Orlando (FL 10), who announced he's HIV positive on Thursday of last week. I mentioned my [...]
Chris Christie squeezes into the already-crowded GOP clown car today! Nicole discusses his unlikely bid and more with the Gliberal Goddesses (GottaLaff and Amy Simon) along with the rest of the news. Plus Frank Schaeffer on religious hypocrisy
All eyes are on the Supreme Court once again as this term winds down. Today we learned the fate of marriage equality in the USA. I also gave our resident Republican, John LeBoutillier, one last chance to redeem himself after showing his climate denier stripes. And we segue into the weekend with our Flashback Friday musical blast from the past. Today, it's my interview with XTC from 2000 and a bonus session with Wilco from 1999.
The SCOTUS big decision wait is on. Rumors have it that the high court will rule today on Same Sex Marriage. Brian Silva of Marriage Equality USA will give the background on the case it all hinges on, and more. Plus Driftglass returns with a bi-monthly segment in which we call out the idiots and jerks...
"Boca" Britany Somers joins Nicole Sandler in studio today to talk with Equality Florida's Gina Duncan about Florida's "bathroom surveillance bill" currently before the FL legislature, which would prohibit transgender people from using the restroom in which they best fit. For Flashback Friday, we go back to 1996 for Nicole's session with Richard Thompson
Nicole is joined in studio by Boca Britney (formerly known as Boca Brian) to talk radio, politics, and LGBT issues. For Flashback Friday we go back to May of 2001 for a studio session with the band Semisonic
Why in the world should bigots have any legal right to discriminate against anyone based on their religious beliefs? These are beliefs, nothing more. Feel free to believe anything you want-- in private-- but nobody should be able to justify bigotry in the name of religion. What kind of god do these people believe in that allows them to enforce their holier-than-thou brand of injustice on their fellow human beings? Whatever happened to "do unto others"? Whatever happened to civil rights and equality? Oh yeah, this is America. What am I thinking? The letters below nail it. The second one makes me want [...]
Marriage Equality comes to Florida today, and Nicole speaks with someone tying the knot - Equality Florida's deputy director Stratton Pollitzer. @GottaLaff makes her 2015 debut to talk with Nicole about the rest of the news
Nicole looks back at the year through some of her best interviews. Today, we go back to January through March, with HORN's Bob Kincaid on WV's chemical water, Jeff Sharlet on the plight of gays in Russia, and Robert Parry on the Russia/Ukraine conflict
