Broken news

I finally broke up with MSNBC last night. I turned on Rachel Maddow to hear her take on Bernie Sanders’ awesome weekend – from Birdie Sanders to Landslide Saturday. But what I got was faulty information presented in a biased manner.

Sure, Maddow repeated herself, as she is wont to do, Bernie won huge victories in all three caucuses on Saturday. She basically wrote off his huge successes to the fact that they are caucuses and not primaries, as if there was some scientific evidence stating that he can’t win a primary.

But the final straw was this graphic that sat on the screen for a seeming eternity.

MSBS BS graphic

This is not only misleading, it’s a bald-faced lie!

I can’t even figure out where they got those numbers from. Here’s the delegate count as it now stands:

Clinton 1266 – Sanders 1038. Two hundred and twenty-eight delegates separate them.

Most of the corporate media sites (New York Times on down) still have the wrong delegate counts, as they take their numbers from the AP, who still hasn’t updated the Washington final numbers.

A.P. has not allocated Washington’s 67 pledged delegates awarded by congressional district because the Democratic party has not yet provided a breakdown of the vote by district.

But Gaius Publius, our official delegate count-keeper, found the most accurate delegate information, and it’s right here.

By the way, if you wanted to add in the super delegates (which shouldn’t be added yet because those votes haven’t been cast yet and can change any time until they vote at the convention), the numbers on that MSBS graphic still wouldn’t add up!

Adding 471 (unpledged, unbound) super delegates to Hillary Clinton’s total brings her to 1731; Adding 30 (unpledged, unbound) super delegates to Bernie’s tally brings his total to 1,068. Again, for the life of me, I have no idea where those numbers in that screen grab above came from… and the graphic does nothing to clarify the totals.

It’s all bullshit. You can watch the segment for yourself and add your own “scream back at the TV” sound track.

After that, I’m done with the Rachel Maddow Show. My challenge to you is to find an independent, progressive media source to replace these corporate shills with. You can start with the list at TheLiberal.Media, and share it liberally!

Today on the show, I spoke with Tim Canova – congressional candidate from FL-23. He’s the guy challenging Debbie Wasserman Schultz in the primary, and we need to have his back. Check him out at timcanova.com.

Claire Conner, author of Wrapped in the Flag: A Personal History of America’s Radical Right warned us about the consequences if one of the GOP field was to take the White House.

And GottaLaff was here, as she is every Tuesday.  In keeping with today’s “media malpractice” theme, Laffy caught the LA Times red-handed, editing a story without disclosure, in a less-complimentary way to Bernie Sanders. Read all about it here.

Tomorrow, the wonderful Kelly Carlin will be here, talking about her dad George Carlin, who plays a big role in her book, A Carlin Home Companion, and will undoubtedly be a big part of her one-woman show, coming for a few performances this weekend to the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach.  Deborah Newell will be here with another peek inside the Oy FloriDUH files too.. radio or not!

Here’s today’s preshow music- Kill the media edition:
