Today is Nov 1, opening day of open enrollment for insurance under the ACA or Obamacare. (Yes, despite Trump’s best efforts, Obamacare is still alive and well, and opens today for business.) And Elizabeth Warren released her plan to pay for Medicare for All.
Lucky for us, my guest today is Wendell Potter, the whistleblower who exposed the for-profit health insurance industry for the scammers and crooks they are. Today, in addition to discussing our health insurance options today including the choice between Medicare as it stands today and Medicare Advantage, Wendell also weighs in on Warren’s and Bernie Sanders’ Medicare for All plans, and help us understand how it would work.
I promised I’d link to three articles about Warren’s plans, all out today.
First, an article from health care activist and ALS patient Ady Barkan at The Intercept: “Ady Barkan: Elizabeth Warren’s Plan Is a Massive Win for the Medicare for All Movement”
Next, a detailed examination of the plan from David Dayen at the American Prospect: “Warren’s Medicare for All Plan Includes No New Taxes on the Middle Class”
From Paul Waldman who contributes to the Plum Line Blog at the Washington Post: “What Elizabeth Warren’s new health-care plan gets right”
That’s a start. There are many more analyses of Warren’s plan all over the interwebs today. It’s not a simple formula, but it’s the most comprehensive plan I’ve seen…
