The Nicole Sandler Show Celebrates Five Years of Radio or Not!
CORAL SPRINGS, FL – January 21, 2015 will mark the 5th anniversary of The Nicole Sandler Show at radioornot.com, featuring an entertaining mix of news and commentary, long-form interviews on the issues of the day, with a generous sprinkling of comedy, music and fun. The story begins on January 21, 2010, when free speech in America took two devastating hits.
On the same day the Supreme Court issued its decision in the Citizens United case, overturning more than a century of campaign finance law and declaring that money equals speech, Air America Radio went off the air, silencing progressive voices across the nation.
At the time, Nicole Sandler was hosting The Nicole Sandler Show weeknights on Air America. Just moments before 5:00 p.m. EST, as Nicole was preparing to tape an interview with Congressman Alan Grayson to air on that evening’s show, she was alerted to the network’s demise by a listener.
By the time Congressman Grayson called in to tape their scheduled interview, Nicole had already decided that the show would go on. She had begun simulcasting her show on a video stream using Ustream some months earlier, so she hoped her regular users would show up as usual, and many did.
She also posted the show as a podcast at radioornot.com, a site she had founded a few years earlier to post interviews from her days in music radio, and the rest, as they say, is history. Eventually, Nicole moved to a more reasonable hour (10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. EST), added audio streaming and moved her video streaming to YouTube.
Her first guest to kick off the next five years will be the same as her first guest on that initial online show: Congressman Alan Grayson.
The program is broadcast live Monday through Friday mornings from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. EST, from her home base at Radio or Not. The video stream runs live and the shows are archived on her YouTube channel, and Nicole has her own dedicated 24/7 audio stream running continuously at Radio or Not and on its dedicated TuneIn channel, repeating each day’s program until the next day’s live program begins. On weekends, the stream features all five of the prior week’s shows running back to back.
The show is downloadable as a podcast via iTunes, consistently ranks on Stitcher’s Top News/Talk Shows list, and is also heard on other online radio stations including SoFloRadio, AirProgressive, Netroots Radio, and more.
